2018. Our Land won 2nd prize in the Brexit Monuments competition. A column 28m high is made from earth collected in each of the 28 EU countries. It is rammed to form one tower, with each nation’s soil layered in alphabetical order. Our Land is a monument to the common terrain of Europe. Since the United Kingdom is at the bottom, only a magic trick can remove this layer without damaging the tower.

The project title can’t easily be translated. It means “notre pays” (our country), “chez nous” (our place) and “notre terre” (our earth). An inability to communicate the absurd intensity of British nationalistic sentiment is central to Brexit. Competition entry for the Paris School of Architecture Brexit Monuments.
